The Ramos Gin Fizz is a classic New Orleans cocktail. This variation relies on the pairing of cherry and almonds. It is a classic flavor combination for a reason. Luxardo Sour Cherry Gin and Almond Milk are the key flavor elements in this drink.
Combine Sour Cherry Gin, Maraschino, lemon juice, lime juice, simple syrup and egg white in a shaker without ice. Shake vigorously for around a minute.
Add ice and almond milk to shaker and shake again for a minute.
Strain into a highball glass and top with sparkling water.
Garnish with a cocktail cherry.
A Ramos Gin Fizz is well known among bartenders for being a leading cause of repetitive stress disorder. In order to get the distinctive froth and foam that this drink is known for requires a lot of shaking. The original recipe called for a full 12 minutes of shaking. The story goes that New Orleans bars in the 1880's would hire teams of 'shaker boys' that would pass the shaker up and down a row to get the job done.
This recipe relies on technique rather than brute force to get the same results. Adding cream in the beginning doesn't allow the egg white to work its magic and bind the air bubbles in the mixture. Shaking first without ice froths the egg white nicely. Adding the cream and shaking a second time with ice.
