How to Make a Watermelon Margarita

CHIPOTLE WATERMELON MARGARITA

MAKES 1 SERVING

TALL GLASS

  • 4 oz watermelon juice
  • 2 oz anejo tequila
  • 1 oz chipotle orange syrup
  • 1 oz lime juice

Chipotle Orange Syrup

  • 1 dried ground chipotle pepper
  • 2 large strips of orange zest
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water

TO BUILD

  1. For the Juice: Cut a small seedless watermelon into large cubes and blend for 10 – 15 seconds. The juice will keep up to a week in the refrigerator.

  2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

  3. Pour tequila, chipotle syrup, lime juice and watermelon juice into shaker.

  4. Shake vigorously for 10 – 15 seconds.

  5.  Strain into a tall glass filled with ice.

  6. To Garnish: Rim the glass with sea salt and garnish with a small slice of watermelon.

For the Chiptole Orange Syrup

  1. In a saucepan combine water, sugar, chipotle pepper and orange peel. 

  2. Simmer over medium heat until sugar has completely dissolved. 

  3. Set aside until syrup has cooled. Strain with a fine mesh sieve. 

  4. Transfer to an airtight container. Keep refirgerated.
