Strawberry Gin Mojito – What’s in gin mojito?

A classic mojito is basically a sour made with lime juice and some crushed mint. It is served in a tall glass filled with crushed ice topped with soda. You might be more familiar with this type of sour as a fizz.

This strawberry gin mojito recipe simply swaps gin for white rum in a classic mojito recipe. It’s fairly common practice. You’ll sometimes see this on cocktail menus as a London Mojito or somesuch.

Gin Mojito Ingredients

Gin – All we really have to do is replace rum with gin and you have your gin mojito. no big deal. In this recipe we are going to use a strawberry infused gin for extra flavor. More on that later.

Limes – Fresh lime juice is key to a good mojito recipe – don’t try to use store-bought lime juice, it will make your gin mojito taste terrible. Instead, squeeze fresh limes for extra juicy refreshment.

Mint – If you really want to get fancy, you might think about switching out mint for basil. It’s a pretty easy substitution and it is delicious with gin.

Simple Syrup – Repeat after me: It’s simple syrup. Equal parts sugar and water. Heat up the water and dissolve the sugar into it. Let it cool. That’s it.

Soda Water – Not a lot to say here. There really is no such thing as artisanal soda water. I suppose if you’re really committed to the cause you could devise a way to capture CO2 from dry ice and add that to your water. Yeah, just grab a bottle next time you’re in the store.

Strawberry Gin

In this case, however, we are getting a little fancier. That means we are going to make a strawberry gin to use as the base for our cocktail.

If you are not familiar with infusing spirits, don’t sweat. It is one of the easiest ways to create something new and exciting from an old favorite.

We are also changing out the lime for lemon in this gin cocktail, but other than that it is the same classic mojito cocktail you already know and love.

How to make a Mojito with Gin?

Muddle the mint, then shake

  1. Start by crushing a bunch of ice. The easiest way to do this
  2. Muddle
  3. Get out your cocktail shaker. Fill the cocktail shaker with ice. Add gin, lime juice and simple syrup.
  4. Put the top on the cocktail shaker and shake, shake, shake.
  5. Strain
  6. Top with Soda
  7. Garnish with Fresh Mint Leaves and Lime

Strawberry Gin Mojito

  • 2 oz strawberry gin
  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • strawberries
  • fresh basil leaves
  1. Muddle 2 fresh strawberries in the bottom of a Collins glass.
  2. Lay 2 or 3 fresh basil leaves across the palm of your hand. Give the leaves a quick slap to bring the aromatic oils to the surface.
  3. Gently rub the basil leaves around the rim and drop into the glass.
  4. Fill glass with crushed ice.
  5. Pour strawberry gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  6. Strain cocktail into glass.
  7. Top with soda water and give it a short stir.
  8. Garnish with strawberry, basil sprig and a straw.
